What is SSL?
SSL or ‘Secured Sockets Layer’ is the term used to describe a secure website. Sites that use SSL encrypt data before it is transmitted to ensure privacy and prevent hackers from obtaining personal information.
Example: If a visitor completes a contact form on your real estate website that is SSL enabled, the data is safely transmitted to your site. Without SSL, the data is un-encrypted and vulnerable.
Bottom line: If you collect personal information on your website you are responsible for it. Ensure your site is SSL protected so you are too. Unless you specify otherwise, every site we build includes free SSL. You can tell if a site is using SSL as a lock will appear in the header of the browser address:
